Additives that prevent fluid loss are added to prevent dehydration of the cement; thus, the cement will retain the necessary proportion of water and the properties of the cement will not be impaired. Low liquid loss is required during cementing by pressing, since the cement must be squeezed into the intended areas before sedimentation forms on the filter. The loss of liquid during primary cementing can be as critical as during cement pressing.
